Degree of needle density

Sum of needle mass fractions of all age-groups in percent

Important ecological parameter for indeciduous conifers like spruce, pine and fir to evaluate immission effects. Air pollutants may alter the aging of needles which may result in an early loss of older needles. The degree of needle density is expressed as the sum of the needle masses of all age-groups in percent at a given sampling time.
