Abstract

This report describes the results of investigations carried out in the context of the German Environmental Specimen Bank (ESB). An analytical method was developed and validated for the quantitative determination of Triclosan (TCS), Methyl Triclosan (MTCS) and Chlorophene (CP) in biota samples. The analyses were performed in compliance with DIN EN ISO 17025 (General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories).

The method based on a pressurized liquid extraction method, a clean up of the gained extracts with gel permeation chromatography and a subsequent fraction of the analytes on silica gel. The 'non polar' MTCS fraction is concentrated and analyzed directly by GC/MS/MS. The 'polar' fraction, which contains the chlorinated phenol derivates, is derivatizated with PFBBr and measured by GC/NCI-MS.

92 samples of the matrix bream muscles derived from the stock of the German Environmental Specimen Bank were analyzed for the retrospective monitoring. Additionally 24 samples of the same matrix were included in the measuring program for analytical quality control. Altogether 116 samples were analyzed.
